Simbang Gabi in Tokyo

December 22, 2012

It is very heartwarming to be around Filipinos who are proud to be Filipinos. Last December 23, I participated in the Simbang Gabi celebration of the Filipino Community in Tokyo. I believe this type of mass is uniquely Filipino (or maybe also popular in Spain as well hence the term Misa de Gallo?) and is celebrated in preparation for Christmas. Anyway, aside from Pinoys in Tokyo, I could see some other nationalities inside the Franciscan Chapel Center who are prolly also in search of the best way to jumpstart their celebration of the holidays.

Anyway, after the mass, the entire community had a small feast at the basement of the church where I chanced upon familiar faces from the Association of Filipino Students in Japan, the Davao Community, as well as the Philippine Embassy.
