The Lion King 3D boasts of revitalized graphics and all that jazz that should and would undoubtedly please your visual organs. Unfortunately, the guys from Walt Disney seemed to have missed the point. 3D is good, but what people missed most is the soundtrack.

If I were to recall my late night movie screening just to catch this childhood favourite after work, although there were in fact a bunch of kids who were too giddy for comfort to catch Simba and the gang in the silverscreen, a lot of those who watched it were people my age – kids at heart – who doesn’t seem to give a flying f*ck of embarrassment as almost all of us in the cinema sang all those songs from Circle of Life to Hakuna Matata to Can You Feel The Night as barely audible as possible. We all failed though, because I for one could hear everyone else in the half-empty theatre.

The Lion King had had its moments in the sun. I was actually hoping more kids would be interested to watch this in the time of Angry Birds, iPhone, Facebook, Playstation, and XBOX. Maybe it is because I watched it on a weeknight which is why I didn’t get to see the kind of audience that would melt my nostalgic heart. At any rate, if this movie still appealed to me after all the years of supposed heartaches and pains of supposed adulthood, maybe Lion King 3D still has a special place in the heart for the younger generation.
