Happily Departed

October 8, 2006

Watching the Departed last Saturday night with my sister and Fritz (read that? my sister and Fritz) was a very joyful experience. First of all, I didn’t pay a penny for the entire night. Hehe. And second, the movie, as it is, was really worth watching. If you’ve seen Martin Scorsese’s last film, Gangs of New York, you would have wondered what was going on in this guy’s head. That movie, amidst all the Oscar buzz and controversy, really did not deserve to win any award. The movie, not the plot, was chaotic.

The Departed, however, is lots of fun. The cast is all stellar and the flow of the storyline is clean, clear, and crisp. The editing was also commendable though the splice-here-splice-there technique has been fully used and patented by horror and suspense filmmakers. At any rate, I would like to reiterate that the plot was believable, the acting sorta suspenseful, though a lot has reacted that it was a 100% convulsing. Rest assured though that whether you like great, happy, or sad endings, this movie will make you leave your cinema seats in a weird amazement why people act the way they do.
